WWE Raw Review 2nd May 2011 Rock Returns
While America was rejoicing over the assassination of Osama Bin Laden, WWE Monday night Raw was being hosted in Miami.
It was a special evening for the city as its legendary son The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson returned home for his 39th birthday celebrations.
Monday night WWE RAW was broadcast live from Miami, Florida and saw The Rock enter the AmericanAirlines indoor arena to the sounds of applause from his fans. Many banners wishing him a happy birthday and calling him The Great One were waved as he drank up the euphoric atmosphere of his many fans.
An overwhelming Dwayne held the microphone and yelled to his home crowd “finally the Rock has come home”, to which the arena exploded into a frenzy of cheer. Chants of “Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!” were heard in the background as The Rock told the tale of life in Miami, tales of high school and his college career playing football and winning the national championship. He was then interrupted by the familiar sound of the chiming notification of the general manager emailing Michael Cole. The Rock refused to listen to the message and invited Cole into the ring to read it to his face. With some reluctance, Cole joined the Rock and accepted a handshake off the Rock which was an apology for misbehaving for previous actions at Wrestlemania. Cole was then met with the rock bottom move, and the general manager didn’t get his message read out after all.
The celebrations commenced with a short performance by Pitbull who was joined on stage by an army of the Miami Heat dancers.
The first match should have been John Morrison and R-Truth. The fight never got off to a start as Morrison was attacked on his walk down from the ramp by wild man R-Truth. R-Truth tried to cause John Morrison collateral damage and the message from him was pure and simple “Don’t mess with R-Truth”.
Diva favourite Kelly Kelly who was recently drafted to Raw from Smackdown faced blonde-bombshell Maryse in the next round of fights. The commentator joked that he hoped that “a blonde would win this match” as both blonde divas took to the ring. They had barely flicked each others hair when the fearsome Kharma entered the arena. Kharma who does not fit the diva profile of the usual slim, pretty, athletic female wrestler and will probably scare the kids more than anything else. She was fresh from desecrating Michelle McCool in Wrestlemania and fancied her chances at going for Maryse. She dropped Maryse from a height and left Kelly Kelly in a paralysed state of fear. All divas should take notice of the newcomer – bad Kharma has arrived in WWE.
The main event of the evening was the rematch of John Cena versus The Miz. Fresh from their meeting at Wrestlemania some twenty-four hours previous when Cena won the title from The Miz. The Miz was looking for vengeance, Cena is just enjoying living his dream of being WWE ten time world champion.
These two wrestlers put on an energetic and crowd pleasing match. Cena drop-kicked The Miz, followed by a tactical distraction from Alex Miley who is being mentored by The Miz, so that the former champion could attack Cena. The Miz then launched Cena into the steel steps in no mans land where he attacked him fiercely. It was apparent that the only way The Miz would overcome John Cena was to pin him down and get him to submit. This was proving difficult for the Cleveland born wrestler, as a number of holds which looked to have Cena close to submission, he was able to kick out of. Cena was looking the true champion as he withstood a ‘neckbreaker’ from The Miz and taunted him back with his “you can’t see me” taunt, before initiating a five knuckle shuffle.
Exhausted but being encouraged by Alex Riley to “stay on Cena”, The Miz performed his signature ‘skull crushing finale’ which Cena was expecting and managed to anticipate in time. Unfortunately for Cena, the referee was knocked out of the ring simultaneously and so did not see The Miz tapping in submission.
The fight continued to entertain the crowd which saw Alex Riley slide the WWE belt to the Miz, and consequently was used as a weapon again John Cena. Cena was counted out and The Miz was briefly announced as the winner until the referee reversed his decision and disqualified The Miz.
John Cena remains the champion and as an encore performed the attitude adjustment on The Miz and Alex Riley to show them exactly why he is a ten time winning champion.
